Genie

Forage oat

  • Good seeding vigour and quick growth for early grazing
  • Produces large quantities of autumn and winter feed
  • Very late maturity remaining vegetative into late spring
  • Large broad leaves with an erect growth habit
  • Low growing point giving excellent recovery from grazing

Genie has been the benchmark for many years in northern regions of Australia for high performing forage oats. Genie is a true forage oat variety bred in northern Australia for northern Australian farms. It has fast establishment, high forage production and late maturity.  Over recent years Genie has become susceptible to both leaf and stem rust.

Key features

  • Good seeding vigour and quick growth for early grazing
  • Produces large quantities of autumn and winter feed
  • Very late maturity remaining vegetative into late spring
  • Large broad leaves with an erect growth habit
  • Low growing point giving excellent recovery from grazing

Key benefits

  • Reliable performance
  • Fast to first graze
  • Very late maturity which stays leafy into late spring
  • Good ROI high yielding = more feed
  • Suits northern climate zones

Leaf & Stem Rust Resistance

Genie is susceptible to both leaf and stem rust and growers are advised to apply the appropriate management plans to minimise damage caused by rust.

High Forage Yield

Genie has very high yield potential and has been a consistent performer over many years. Its early season growth is particularly strong and vigorous with plants jumping out of the ground making quick grazing possible.

Suitability

Genie is suitable for grazing in both extensive and intensive situations in all areas of central and southern Queensland and  northern New South Wales. Genie is also suitable for hay and silage production. The graph below highlights Genie's superior early growth and vigour.

Forage Oats

Forage oat varieties are broadly adapted and reliable and are the most widely used of the forage cereals. Easy to establish, they are the only true forage cereal that can be sown in late summer and early autumn, giving them the highest yield potential.
